| This is either the place where
Jesus was crucified, or a close representation of the site. It
is located next to the garden Tomb (below) just outside the city
walls of old Jerusalem. The other alternative site is the church
of the Holy Sepulcher - built by the mother of Constantine and
located inside old Jerusalem.
Golgotha is a place name, transliterated from Aramaic and or Hebrew into Greek and then into English,
meaning "skull." In Mark
15:22 we find the Hebrew name for this place where Jesus was crucified. The Latin equivalent is
calvaria, or Calvary in English. |
