Millennium

January 2000

We have just seen the greatest party the world has ever known - a global celebration of the change over to a new millennium… but why?

We are really celebrating the (approx) 2000th anniversary of the birth of the only saviour given to the world. As the Scripture says:

"I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no saviour. I have revealed and saved and proclaimed - I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "that I am God. Yes, and from ancient days I am he" (Isa 43:11).

"Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well" (John 14:5).

The Millennium is a tremendous celebration of the uniqueness of Jesus ~ our only saviour. His life is the greatest event in human history, as we are reminded in celebration every Christmas, New Year and Easter.

Every human being needs this saviour, this friend. Let’s celebrate in this truth.

We are his witnesses ~ in how we live and what we say... his Spirit within us gives us a way to live and something to proclaim, to His glory alone.

The Eternal City of Jerusalem

"The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you. "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

"So Abram left, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran. He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.

"Abram travelled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him." (Gen 12:1-7).

Comment
As far as we know the tree of Moreh at Shechem is now the place of the gold topped Moslem 'Dome of the Rock' in the photo above. It is also believed that this is the place (Moriah) where Isaac was sacrificed and close to the place of the sacrifice of Jesus (Golgotha).

Abraham is the father of the Jews and Christians through his son Isaac ~ and to the Arabs and Moslems through his son Ishmael (Genesis 17:1-22).

"After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child's life are dead."

"So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream, he withdrew to the district of Galilee, and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets: "He will be called a Nazarene." (Matt 2:19-23).
