Thank you for
Helping Me!

Take a good look at this picture. It's one of the most
remarkable photographs ever taken. The tiny hand of a foetus reaches out
from a mother's womb to clasp a surgeon's healing finger. It is, by the
way, 21 weeks old, an age at which it could still be legally aborted. The
tiny hand in the picture above belongs to a baby which is due to be born
on December 28, 1999.

One
Life
This little hand reveals a person with unlimited potential
before God. Yet the laws in many countries allow this baby to be snuffed
out just because he/she is not wanted. The above
story is a fantastic account of professional people working creatively
with God-fearing parents to help this little life.
This story calls the whole question of some of the
concepts of abortion into account.
Question: Is there
a similarity between our society's abuse
of abortion - and the pursuits of the bloodthirsty crowds at the
Roman Colosseum in the story of Telemachus?
If abortion is accepted as "a choice"
for the alleviation of the consequences of sexual permissiveness... is
our society engaging in a bloody killing spree to support the pursuit of pleasure?
This question is not raised in
the context of medical emergencies, as is the case in the photo above. The
question is relevant to our need to recognise a baby in the womb as a
living growing person. From this we have to ask:
Do we have the right to kill a
person who is growing in the womb as a result of our acts... just
because he or she is not valued?
If Telemachus was alive today
he would be crying out: 'Forbear, forbear,
in the name of Christ I beg you to forbear'.
The relevancy of Genesis 2:16
"And the LORD God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."
Eating the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is taking on the "right to choose" apart from the purposes
of God. Rather than choosing to obey God, we think we can do our own
thing... which inevitably results in death.
God gives life... he knows us before we are
even born:
"From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my
God" (Psalm 22:10).
"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's
womb" (Psalm 139:13).
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you
apart" (Jer 11:5).
"As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for
joy" (Luke 1:44).
The Power of One...

Have you had
an abortion
or are you considering one?
Has
the issue of abortion brought you, a family member, or a close friend to a
sense of need? Are you searching for spiritual restoration and inner healing?
And what about
the fellows...
they probably instigated the act which caused this problem?
If
this is speaking to you... then here is good news: God sent his own son
to die on the Cross to pay the moral and spiritual penalty of our
sinful acts.
This is a call to faith and the path to inner
wholeness. This is a call to recognise the dignity and worth of each life
and to have faith that God is our provider. As we commit our ways to him
through Christ, we will always have hope for the future. He will provide
for us one day at a time.
