Pilot Fellowship
FCAP - Singapore
Background
Some time back the Lord impressed upon the hearts of Capts Jeffrey Ang, Jaya Mohan and Twang Pok Tiang that there was a necessity for an outreach to the SIA pilots by pilots. There was a need for the Word of God to be shared, ministry carried out and that the bonding among believing pilots be increased and improved.
A meeting was held where these burdens were shared, prayed about and discussed. Soon after, in obedience to the Lord, the Pilots' Christian Fellowship was formed.
Objectives
Sharing God in the work place (Evangelism)
Encouragment and Growth (Discipling)
Fellowship in Singapore (Worship and Koinonia)
Support for those in need around us (Service)
Outreach to other locations (Mission)
Facilitating Worship and Service overseas by gathering information on Church and Mission (Communication)
Support of FCAP Singapore (part of the Body).
The fellowship meetings at base were held approximately once a month and many pilots were kind enough to open their homes to host the meetings, which would incorporate Praise and Worship singing, Bible and general sharing, prayers and the table fellowship.
It was very uplifting and heartening to see people from different backgrounds, denominations and worship styles coming together in harmony and unity to worship God under one banner.
The Lord's blessings upon the group were evident as we experienced spiritual growth, closer ties with one another and through the grace of God even managed to participate in saving a soul.
Two years have elapsed since our first meeting. The information on the churches is largely done and while the cockpit ministry and the meetings are on going, we have recently felt the prompting to look beyond (but not away from) ourselves.
The growth areas so far include:
Fellowship with other Christians
Even as the group was consolidating some of us were, on a personal basis, interacting with the other FCAP groups within SIA. We found these experiences to be edifying and fruitful in that we were always enriched by their sharing, encouraged by their enthusiasm and our eyes were opened to the fact that we are in a great position to contribute to the Kingdom in many different ways.
So now in response to their numerous invitations and in a step forward towards maturity we look to commit more of ourselves to link up with these groups in the area of prayer, worship and the occasional project. In the not too distant future we also look towards having ties with the other Christian groups in the international aviation industry.
Mission
One of our responsibilities as Christians is to win souls for Christ and here we have felt the urging to go further afield. We are now actively involved in the spreading of God's kingdom in central Java. Captain's Peter Kentley and Twang have just returned from Indonesia, having gone there to check out a mission project and to do some ministering. Since that visit we have raised and contributed money to help the Christian leaders over there to win people for Christ. Not all of us are called to be full time missionaries but we want to help those who are. We pray that this will be the start of many opportunities for the group to be used to bless others and be involved in their salvation.
Prayer Ministry
During our previous meetings we had on many occasions prayed corporately for the airlines and for individuals when they have had special needs. Some problems though require dedicated and persistent prayer and we want to form an intercessory group. We hope that many of you will volunteer yourselves in order that we will have a reasonably large pool to draw from to pray when certain emergencies or situations arise which would significantly affect the airlines or it's pilots and their families.
These are our visions for the future. The Lord has been faithful in preparing us over these last two years.
He has provided His high grade fuel and as He ignites, fires and propels us, we pray that we in turn will be faithful in carrying out the tasks that He has led us to do.
We also pray for His touch upon your hearts and for your positive response to that touch so that you will join us and together we may fulfil the purposes that the Lord has set for us in this area of our lives.
